Housebuilders will now submit detailed applications for scheme’s phases

Housebuilding giants Persimmon and Barratt Redrow have been granted outline planning approval for a 2,500-home development subject to a section 106 planning agreement.

Ashton Park APPROVAL

Wiltshire Council has approved the plans for Ashton Park in Trowbridge, the largest allocated site in the council’s core strategy.

The deal is on the condition the housebuilders deliver affordable housing and other infrastructure.

Under the plans, 26% of the homes will be for affordable tenures, which is less than the 30% required by the local authority due to viability issues. To redress this, the housebuilders will contribute a further £5.3m for off-site affordable housing.

The scheme will also provide 13.6ha of employment space, two primary schools, a secondary school, shopping and community centres and a relief road.

Last November, it was announced that Barratt Redrow had acquired half of the land at Ashton Park from Persimmon.

This deal turned the project into a joint venture between the two developers. Both housebuilders will now move forward with detailed applications for the various phases of development for the site.

Seb Spiller, managing Director of Persimmon Homes Wessex said: “We’re delighted that Wiltshire’s strategic planning committee has resolved to grant permission for our plans and grateful for the constructive way the council has worked with us during this process.

“Their support reflects the clear benefits this scheme will bring – not least the delivery of much-needed housing for local people.

Rob Hart, managing director of Barratt Bristol, said: “Working alongside Persimmon Homes and in close dialogue with Wiltshire Council and local stakeholders, we look forward to creating a high-quality, sustainable new neighbourhood that supports the future of Trowbridge and the wider area.”
