How London Square Earlsfield should look

Wandsworth council has given housebuilder London Square permission to build 253 new homes as part of the last phase of the redevelopment of a mental health hospital.

The London-focused developer, which last year reported it had seen profit double, will now build 95 one bedroom, 75 two bedroom, 52 three bedroom and 31 four bedroom homes, a mix of apartments and family homes on the Springfield Park site.

The firm said 43% (108) of the homes will be affordable, with a mix of  37 social rent and 14 shared ownership. The remaining 56 will be for supported living. A total of 26 homes will be wheelchair accessible, 14 within the private for sale and 12 within the affordable homes.

South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust chose London Square last year as a partner to deliver this final phase of the Springfield Village masterplan that will deliver 839 new homes in total.

Assael Architecture have designed the scheme, which will be known as London Square Earlsfield, using brick and other materials to complement the existing Grade II listed Springfield Hospital building.

Adam Lawrence, chief executive of London Square, said: “We are delighted to receive approval to build new homes of exceptional quality, responding to a range of housing needs, from affordable, supported living to private for sale homes to first time buyers and families.”

Pete Ladhams, managing director at Assael Architecture, said: “Our design takes inspiration from the listed and local buildings on and around the site, to create sympathetic architecture that is rich in detail, and with a layout that includes new streets, public squares and courtyard gardens that prioritise pedestrian movement and deliver the vision of the strategic campus masterplan.”
