Two council projects are already being built by the housebuilder
Lewisham council has picked Hill Group for a 10-year strategic partnership worth up to £1.5bn.
The appointment comes after a year-long procurement process and will see the council working long-term with the housebuilder on its development plans, rather than appointing a new contractor for each scheme.
The partnership, which has the option for a five-year extension, will support different types of housing projects. In some instances, the council will develop and own the affordable homes, while in others, Hill will invest, with the council given first choice to buy.
The first projects as part of the partnership are already underway and include Thomas’ Lane Yard in Catford, which comprises 113 affordable homes, 39 homes for social rent and 74 shared ownership homes.
It also includes the Achilles Street Estate Regeneration in New Cross, where 278 new homes, including 122 homes for social rent, will be delivered.
The Achilles Street project provides a minimum of 62% affordable homes, with the first two phases providing 149 homes, all affordable.
“With more than 10,000 households on the housing register and nearly 2,500 families in temporary accommodation, we need to build the homes our community needs faster,” said Daniel Dream, cabinet member for inclusive regeneration, planning and housing.
“This partnership cuts red tape and gives the Council greater control over quality, affordability and delivery.”
