The L&G-owned retirement village developer has secured its 29th site out of a planned 34

Later living developer Inspired Villages has acquired a 27-acre site in Edenbridge, Kent as part of its plan to open retirement communities for around 8,000 people.

The former golf course has planning permission for 184,000sq ft of accommodation including a 100-unit Integrated Retirement Community.

Inspired Villages, which is owned by insurance giant Legal & General (L&G), said earlier this year that it was “on track” to deliver 5,000 homes through its £500m 15-year joint venture with the pension fund of bank Natwest.

The Edenbridge site is the 29th site of a planned 34 retirement communities which will provide over 5,000 homes for around 8,000 people.

In March, L&G’s financial results revealed it had grown the value of Inspired Villages from £1.98bn to £2.3bn.

The later living developer will consult locally on revisions to the existing permission, including a restaurant and wellness centre.

The site is a 15-minute walk from Edenbridge Town Centre, with trains into London Bridge taking under 40 minutes and the M25 a 20-minute drive away.

“We welcome the addition of Edenbridge to our portfolio of sites and are excited by its potential in a popular and thriving location for us,” Neal Dale, chief development & property officer for Inspired Villages said in a statement.

“The provision of this type of age-appropriate accommodation is of wider benefit as it naturally frees up housing stock throughout every element of the property ladder.”

Inspired Villages currently has eight operational villages located across the UK, from Cheshire to Exeter with a further three sites under construction.

Edenbridge will join the current south-east based villages which include Bramshott Place in Hampshire, Durrants in West Sussex and Ledian Gardens in Kent.

Inspired Village’s first Net Zero Carbon Integrated Retirement Community is set to open in Millfield Green in the autumn.
