Money will help deliver more than 350 homes
Homes England has announced a £27.7m investment in the regeneration of a Sunderland neighbourhood.
The investment will help unlock the delivery of more than 350 new homes in Sheepfolds.
The funding, which complements £10m already invested by the North East mayor, will transform the former industrial site.
“This latest funding will enable delivery of the next phase of Riverside Sunderland, one of the most exciting and impressive regeneration projects in England,” said Tom Bridges, executive regional director for North East, Yorkshire and the Humber at Homes England.
“It will unlock much-needed new homes on brownfield land in the heart of Sunderland and create a vibrant new neighbourhood that connects people to their city centre.”
Sheepfolds is part of the Riverside Sunderland Creative Mayoral Development Zone, which aims at “repopulating and reenergising” the city.
Sunderland City Council has a wider ambition to deliver more than 1,000 new homes across the city centre.
Homes England, the mayoral strategic authority and the local authorities recently announced a new delivery partnership which includes a major projects delivery unit, bringing together expertise and resources from across the organisations.
