Developer Capital & Centric to start construction of 253-home project early next year

Developer Capital & Centric has gained approval for its 253-home Weir Mill regeneration scheme in Stockport.

Stockport Council approved the developer’s plans to restore and convert the Victorian Mill buildings, which it claims inspired the art of Salford painter LS Lowry, into what is describes as a “vibrant town centre community”.

The £60m scheme, which is supported by £7m of Housing Infrastructure Fund cash from Homes England, will include a new 60,000 sq ft waterfront outdoor public space and 24,000 sq ft of shops and leisure facilities alongside the 253 homes

Adam Higgins, co-founder of Capital & Centric said he couldn’t wait to get going with the build out of the scheme, planned in early 2022.

He said: “The reality is that this stunning historic mill, parts of which date back as far as the late 1700s, were at risk of being lost forever. Thanks to Stockport’s support, we can not only save Weir Mill, but make it one of the main storylines in Stockport’s next chapter.”

The scheme is part of a £1bn regeneration plan for Stockport’s town centre being promoted by the council.
