Government funding will help borough speed up delivery of 121 flats, says Homes England
Backed by more than £3m of government cash Havant Borough Council will prioritise the use of modern methods of construction on a new housing development in Havant.
The council received £3.4m from Homes England to help speed up the building of homes on the Harvard civic campus scheme.
The grant, delivered through the government’s £450m Local Authority Accelerated Construction Programme which is designed to enccourage the use of innovative construction methods, will help develop 121 flats on the site, in return for which the council will prioritise the use of MMC.
Executive land director at Homes England Stephen Kinsella said the scheme’s plans “aim to prioritise the use of offsite manufacturing to deliver high-quality, precision engineered and highly energy efficient homes” on the site, which is located at the heart of Havant.
Tim Pike, the borough council’s deputy leader and cabinet lead for finance and regeneration, said the funding would kickstart its plans to revamp the site.
“The campus site has great potential. Its transformation will be a game-changer,” Pike added.
