Hammerson has named Simon Betty as managing director at its city quarters and developments arm, which is a newly-created role.

The shopping centre owner said Betty (pictured), who has been promoted from retail director in Ireland, would be responsible for the city quarters and developments (CQD) division and its move into developing mixed-use schemes from more than 100 acres in its existing landbank.

Last year, Hammerson submitted a masterplan for a CQD scheme in Birmingham called Martineau Galleries.

The 7.5-acre development will feature around 1,300 homes and 130,000m² of workspace.

CQD eventually expects to be able to deliver up to 6,600 homes, 1,600 hotel rooms and around 300,000m² of workspace.

Betty will retain his responsibilities for Ireland until a replacement can be found.
