Darren Howell joins Gleeson Homes from Taylor Wimpey North West

Sheffield-based housebuilder Gleeson Homes has appointed Darren Howell as its group construction director.

Howell has more than 40 years experience in the construction industry and comes from being production director at Taylor Wimpey North West for nearly three years.

In his role at Gleeson Homes, which is part of stock exchange-listed housebuilder MJ Gleeson, the incoming construction director will work closely with stakeholders and ensure homes are built efficiently to a high standard.

This makes use of his previous extensive experience in supporting housebuilders to improve their construction quality. At Taylor Wimpey North West Howell was responsible for managing the construction team to ensure they built quality homes on time.

Before this he was at Leeds-based housebuilder Duchy Homes for nearly four years where again he was responsible for ensuring homes were built to standard.

Mark Knight, chief executive at Gleeson Homes, which at the start of this year reported a drop in sales due to last year’s mini-Budget, said Howell had an impressive track record. “Following a thorough recruitment process, we are very confident that Darren is the right person to drive our construction performance forwards, and he has my and the board’s full support in his new role,” he said.

Howell added: “I have long admired the Gleeson Homes’ ethos and commitment to building affordable homes in places where they are needed most. I am also delighted to be working with the team to continue to provide exceptional quality homes and customer satisfaction.”
