Low-cost housebuilder MJ Gleeson has appointed Guy Gusterson as managing director of its land promotion division Gleeson Land.

Gusterson has 25 years experience in the housebuilding industry and was formerly at St Modwen Properties for 15 years.

MJ Gleeson said Gusterson had a “proven track record of delivering strategic growth, developing leadership teams and creating value”.

At St Modwen Properties, Gusterson was latterly managing director for strategic land & regeneration, where he oversaw the development of the capital light strategic land division. Prior to that he held positions including property director for Midlands and the North and group residential director.

He joined St Modwen from three years as a land director at Crest Nicholson.

James Thomson, chief executive of MJ Gleeson, which last month said it had seen cancellations spike in the wake of the mini budget, said: “With a wealth of sector experience, Guy will accelerate Gleeson Land’s growth once market conditions normalise and continue to build on its track record of success and strong industry relationships.”

Gusterson added: ”As one of the country’s largest land promotion businesses, I have long-admired the company which is primed for growth once macro-economic conditions improve. I am very much looking forward to playing my part in this exciting future growth.”
