The local borough council has given planning permission for the £21m 108-home development at West Park. It is the first housing scheme in the town for the commercial arm of Sunderland-based housing association Gentoo Group,

The homes, designed for families by Gentoo’s in-house team, will be part of the larger West Park Garden Village, which will feature three, four and five-bedroom houses, all for private sale. Work is expected to start this summer.

Gentoo Group manages nearly 30,000 social housing properties in Sunderland. Its Gentoo Homes subsidiary builds around 200 units a year for sale, with the proceeds generating funds that back the delivery of more affordable homes for rent in the North-east.
