Projects in Leicestershire and County Durham to progress after ‘complex’ land deals signed

Major garden villages in Leicestershire and County Durham have moved a step closer this week after key land sales were agreed with housebuilders.

In north Leicestershire, regional housebuilders Davidsons Homes and Barwood Homes have bought 460 acres of land from local landowners for the 1,950-home Broadnook Garden Village development in Charnwood.

Work on the Broadnook Garden Village in Leicestershire is to start imminently

This plan includes 15 hectares of employment land, a local centre with supermarket and community facilities, a primary school and an assisted living retirement village comprising 175 homes and a 70-bed care home. Work on the project, which has planning approval, is set to begin later this year.

Meanwhile, in County Durham, Tolent has sold land to developers Taylor Wimpey, Miller Homes and Karbon Homes to enable work on the 1,500-home South Seaham Garden Village to get underway early next year.

Half of the homes will be for private sale, whereas half will be for affordable tenures managed by housing association Karbon.

Infrastructure works linking the development to the nearby A182 are due to start this summer with the first phases of housing commencing early in 2023.
