Mike Harden, a qualified accountant, will also serve as chair of the audit and assurance committee at the 13,500-home housing association in his new role.

He became chief executive of Knowsley Council in 2014 and retired last year after supporting projects including town centre regeneration and the building of the Shakespeare North Playhouse.

Plus Dane operates across Cheshire and Merseyside and said it will begin developing its next five-year corporate plan in the coming months.

In December 2024, the landlord was downgraded to a G2 regulatory grading for governance but retained its V2 viability grading and was handed a C2 in its first consumer assessment.

Harden has succeeded Gary Dixon, who is stepping down from the board after reaching the end of his tenure.
