McDonnell is the group chief executive of Belfast-based Choice Housing Ireland, which manages around 12,000 homes across Northern Ireland. He is a CIH fellow and previously served as chief executive of Helm Housing Association before it merged with Fold to form Radius Housing in 2017.

McDonnell will succeed Carol McTaggart, chief executive of 6,000-home Clanmil Housing Group, who retired from the board at the end of September.

McDonnell said: ”Housing is not a ‘one-size-fits-all’ sector, and neither are our members. I look forward to advocating for the wide range of housing options they provide while showcasing the innovative, forward-thinking work being delivered across the sector in Northern Ireland.”
