The present incumbent Stephen Hills is set to retire later this year

Cambridge Housing Society has appointed Chris Harris as chief executive.

The former Arhag Housing Association chief will take on leadership of the Cambridgeshire-based landlord in November, following the retirement of outgoing CEO, Stephen Hills.

Harris has 30 years of sector experience, having  most recently served as CEO of Arhag, an organisation that works with migrants and refugees in London.

He has held senior leadership positions across multiple housing associations, including Genesis Housing Group and Catalyst Housing Group.

Martin Wheatley, chair of the board at Cambridge Housing Society, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Chris on board as our new chief executive. As an organisation, we’re looking to build on the strong foundations laid by Stephen during his outstanding leadership, and we firmly believe that Chris Harris can help us to achieve our ambitions.

Founded in 1927, Cambridge Housing Society supplies 3,000 social homes in Cambridge and Cambridgeshire. 

Harris said he was “pleased” to join Cambridge Housing Society, saying that “the work each and every member of staff does every day to support the local community is extraordinary” and that he looked forward to ”to supporting and building on that in the months ahead”.

“With the organisation’s 100 year anniversary on the horizon, it’s an exciting time to be joining and I cannot wait to start working with our colleagues and partners, as well as our tenants and residents, to ensure that everyone in our community flourishes,” he added.
