Cala Homes is to start enabling works on the first phase of the development at Long Marston airfield near Stratford-upon-Avon after completing the purchase of the site.

Planning has already been given for the scheme’s initial 400 homes, which will form part of the Long Marston Airfield Garden Village.

Work is being backed by up to £13.4m of Homes England funding from the housing infrastructure fund.

The development will feature two- to five-bedroom homes, 70 of which will be for social rent and shared ownership.

Sophie White, Homes England’s infrastructure grant director, said the agency was looking forward to getting spades in the ground with the housebuilder, which is owned by Legal & General.

“Our multimillion-pound funding injection has allowed for the construction of key infrastructure, including new roads, unlocking critical housing land and meaning local partners can now get on with the job of making homes happen for their communities,” she added.

Earlier this month, Cala received planning permission for 280 homes in Bromley, south London.
