Amid much talk of new funding models in the housing sector, we should shift our focus to what places need in order to thrive, argues Andrew Ludiman

Housing Today is right to celebrate the return of substantial public investment in social housing. But it’s not just the big numbers that matter – either of pounds or homes, it’s the innovation, vision and collaboration that are required to turn one into the other.

In the flurry of policy announcements from government recently – from the spending review last week to the infrastructure strategy this week, we’ve seen evidence that, at last, the sector is getting what we really need: “innovative private finance models” and an emphasis on place-based business casing.
