The Chartered Institute of Housing chief executive reflects on the sector’s to-do list for the next few months. Carl Brown reports

“I’ve lost track…I think there are five consultations we need to respond to”, jokes Gavin Smart after one of the most unusual three-week periods that most housing leaders could remember.

The spending review last month saw the Labour government accept pretty much all of the social housing sector’s major asks in what was described by multiple sector leaders as a ‘game-changing’ moment for social housing.

Rachel Reeves announced a £39bn, 10-year Social and Affordable Homes Programme (SAHP), a 10-year rent settlement, a consultation on rent convergence and equal access to building safety funding for social landlords.
