In his first interview as chair of the influential housing association group, the Peabody boss talks about the housing crisis in London, recapitalising housing associations and rebuilding the sector’s reputation

Ian McDermott has been chair of the G15 group of large London housing associations for barely a fortnight when we speak, but in that short time it feels like everything has changed for social housing.

The Peabody chief executive is looking content and energised after succeeding Fiona Fletcher-Smith of L&Q as chair of the group. Like many, though, he appears to still be struggling to process the scale of the announcements about affordable housing contained in this month’s spending review.
