Rayner pledges action to “ensure vulnerable tenants are not exploited”

Angela Rayner said the government will later this year call for evidence from the social housing sector about claims farming activity.

Concern has been growing in the sector in recent months about firms who encourage residents to make disrepair claims against their landlords.

These claims are then sold under conditional fee, or ‘no win no fee’ agreements, to solicitors who pursue the case. They can still lead to tenants incurring significant legal fees and costs, even if the claim is unsuccessful, or result in the tenant receiving a smaller portion of any compensation after fees are deducted.
