Gove threatens 10 councils with special measures

Housing secretary says he will intervene to take over decision-making given slow pace ofresponding to applications

Michael Gove has threatened to take control of planning decisions at ten councils across England after he said the authorities were taking too long to process applications.

The housing secretary said that the councils, three of which have been led wholly or in part by residents’ association parties in recent times, would be given till June to start hitting targets to determine applications within set periods, or be put into special measures.
