What happened to the information revolution in housing?

The fragmented state of housebuilding has made the data revolution difficult to take off in the sector, but this might now be changing, writes Ben Derbyshire

Futurology is fraught with risk. Ten years ago I led a report for The Housing Forum called Housing for the Information Age, asserting that the post-Facebook generation would soon galvanise housebuilders, surveyors, estate agents and designers to adopt technology and information systems to meet their demands for more meaningful information, wider choice, hassle-free service, more energy efficient and easier to maintain homes. I suggested that it would be winner takes all to be in the vanguard of an information-led revolution, soon to deliver these benefits to householders.
