The CMA’s inquiry into the availability, cost and delivery of new-build houses could have potential far-reaching consequences for the sector, according to Merle Wray and Nick Pimlott

Sarah Cardell, chief executive of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said the quality and cost of housing was “one of the biggest issues facing the country” upon announcing the commencement of a major market study into the British housebuilding sector on 28 February 2023.

The market study is designed to look into housing availability and cost in England, Scotland and Wales, in response to concerns that housebuilders are not delivering homes at an adequate pace or scale.
