We must lift modular into the mainstream

Mark Farmer new 2020

It is time to think big and give our archaic homebuilding industry something to be positive about

I recently published a report with Mike De’Ath of HTA Design. Build Homes, Build Jobs, Build Innovation is my first major publication since Modernise or Die in 2016. The title is a deliberate play on the government’s own vocabulary, recognising the role of the construction industry in any post covid-19 recovery.

We set out an ambitious plan to lift modular homebuilding into the mainstream. Despite progress in the past few years there remain major sticking points. The issues are complex and inter-related but are solvable with strategic interventions that can fully align with other areas of government policy.
