‘Infill’ developments could provide areas like Westminster with much-needed affordable homes

We need more genuinely affordable homes in London. To meet this demand, local authorities face a Herculean task. In Westminster alone, we have pledged to deliver nearly 2,000 affordable homes by 2023, an ambitious target which is the driving force behind the city’s largest housebuilding programme in a generation.

The challenges of delivering much-needed homes in the capital are manifold. This is particularly true in dense and historic Westminster. There is obvious demand for more social and affordable homes but sky-high land values, complex historic and community needs, and a lack of developable land all make this challenging.
