The stigmatisation of social housing residents continues to hold people back. But, writes Rick Liddiment, things can change if we tell a more positive story and give tenants the respect they deserve.

I grew up in social housing, and I’m proud of that. It gave my family security, a sense of belonging, and a foundation to build a future. But I also know what it feels like to have people make assumptions about you because of where you live. Small comments, raised eyebrows, quiet judgements that made you feel like you were somehow ‘less than’ because your home was owned by the council.
