Residents must be active partners in housing services

Housing providers face a challenge to fund and embed a resident engagement approach systematically, but it is central to delivering high-quality services, writes Marcus Canning

The social housing sector has never been under greater scrutiny when it comes to how it listens and responds to residents. From the regulator’s consumer standards to the sector’s sharpened focus on accountability, the message is clear: residents must be active partners, not passive recipients, of housing services.

At Mount Green, this message has always been at the heart of what we do: providing local, resident-focussed services. The decision to join the Stonewater Group last year has enabled us to take that investment in engagement and resident involvement even further.

Over 100 residents joined our summer events programme to connect with neighbours, share experiences and discuss ways Mount Green can better support them. With activities for all ages, from garden games and raffles to cake decorating and even an inflatable assault course, the events created a relaxed environment encouraging meaningful and honest feedback while having fun.
