Rent convergence and decent homes: getting the balance right
The government and providers are facing difficult choices but it’s important that the impact of rent changes on households is understood, writes Daisy Armstrong
When government sets social housing policy, the consequences are felt most directly by residents. Rent convergence may appear to be a technical adjustment, but in practice it affects affordability, household budgets, and trust in the system. Yet residents’ views feel underrepresented with most sector bodies and landlords calling for £2 or £3 a week increases.
