Levelling up means Homes England re-prioritising how it spends

The government has a mountain to climb to address its ‘levelling up’ promises, and a good place to start is affordable housing, says Chris Brown

The first quarter of 2021 is shaping up to be a transformational milestone for the places and people most in need in this country.

Although we must all be cautious given the government’s track record of over promising and under delivering, it is possible that, by the end of March, approaching 20 million people will have been vaccinated with a 90% effective vaccine against covid-19.

If successful, and the stock market bounce earlier this month showed the optimism of investors, this could substantially reduce future economic uncertainty and pave the way for a proper three year government Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) in 2021 that will take the country to the next general election in May 2024.
