if the government was serious about housing it would resist the temptation to keep chopping and changing who is in the ministerial role, argues Paul Smith
Stuart Andrew, member of parliament for Pudsey, has become our 18th housing minister since 2001. If only we could find a way of adopting local plans as quickly.
Mr Andrew comes to the role with a chequered record on housing issues. He has apparently opposed strengthening the rights of renters, and has actively campaigned against releasing land from the green belt in Leeds in order to meet housing need. He wouldn’t be the first senior government figure to oppose house building in his own constituency though - even Michael Gove has history on that front.
