This is the time for a construction policy rethink that really delivers on the pledge to build homes, jobs and innovation, writes Ben Derbyshire

They do say that it is all in the timing. If so, Mark Farmer and Mike De’Ath could not have timed the publication of their “blueprint for a housing-led industrial strategy” better.

Neither could they have chosen a better candidate to write their foreword than Nicholas Boys Smith, whose star is in the ascendent – a positive comet-trail of publications and appointments lying behind his stellar appointment to assemble the great and good who will create the new and as yet un-named national body to promote design excellence in planning.
