The government is betting big with a £500m investment in Oxford and Cambridge. But, argues Steve Brett, a shortage of affordable and sustainable housing across the region would halt growth before it even begins
The government’s recent £500m investment into the Oxford-Cambridge Arc has rightly been welcomed as a significant boost to one of the UK’s most significant locations for innovation. It’s encouraging to see that level of investment backed and valued as one of Labour’s priorities.
The Oxford-Cambridge Corridor is set to boost development with affordable homes, infrastructure and business expansion. This will include projects to connect the two cities further, bringing growth to the regions, creating our very own ‘European Silicon Valley’. However, those projects and people behind them need homes.
