Historic buildings have key role to play in helping us hit net zero targets

It may be some time before we see the publication of the Planning Bill. Given the strength of feeling across the political spectrum, debates on the merits and effect of the proposals will be intense.

Separately, the independent climate change committee has identified a gulf between promises and government policy, advising that more needs to be done to get to a sustainable net zero carbon strategy. With just a few months until the government hosts COP26, the UN Climate Change Conference, there is now an opportunity for ministers to make progress towards achieving the UK’s net zero carbon goals, including through planning reform.
