Building homes that last: Why regulation must ensure quality matches quantity

The government is not going far enough in ensuring quality and sustainability across all tenures of new homes, writes Chloe Fletcher

A warm, comfortable and affordable home is the foundation for good health and wellbeing. It is something we all need but not currently something that we all have. Some people are sleeping rough, other families are stuck in so called ‘temporary accommodation’ for years, young people are having to wait longer to get their first home and others have no way out of overcrowded or unsuitable housing as the private rented sector and home ownership options become increasingly unaffordable and waiting lists for social housing continue to grow.
