Focusing the chancellor’s stimulus package on social housing will boost health, jobs and the economy

The news that the government is working up an economic stimulus package will be welcomed by many. There is much to be done to stave off recession and get the economy moving again. It will be difficult to do even in narrow economic terms, with social distancing affecting the viability of pubs, restaurants, theatres and the like. But by putting housing infrastructure, construction and sustainability at the heart of the recovery, the chancellor could not only drive the economy and create jobs but address critical social and health inequalities too.
