There is a lot more the government and industry could do to help first-time buyers get on to the housing ladder, says Barratt Redrow CEO David Thomas

To achieve the target of building 1.5 million homes by the end of this Parliament, the first step has been to reform and bolster the planning system. However, while we are seeing the most significant changes to planning for a decade, those changes will take time to have an impact. 

In the mean time, to really drive delivery, we have to support demand and help more people to access homeownership now.
